CabTax is a self-filing software tool designed to assist UK taxi and private hire drivers in organising their financial records and estimating their Self Assessment tax liability. CabTax Limited is not a regulated financial adviser, tax adviser, accountant, or legal professional.
Nothing within the CabTax application, website, or any associated communications constitutes professional financial, tax, or legal advice. The information and calculations provided by CabTax are for guidance and informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as a substitute for advice from a qualified accountant or tax professional.
If you have complex tax affairs, multiple income sources, significant investments, or are unsure about any aspect of your Self Assessment return, we strongly recommend consulting a qualified and regulated tax professional before filing.
CabTax endeavours to keep all tax rates, thresholds, and calculations up to date with current HMRC published rates. However, UK tax legislation changes frequently — sometimes with little notice — including changes announced in the Budget, Spring Statement, or via HMRC guidance updates.
CabTax Limited does not guarantee that:
All figures produced by CabTax are estimates only. You must verify all figures independently before submitting your Self Assessment return to HMRC.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, CabTax Limited shall not be held liable for any:
CabTax Limited's total liability to you in connection with the use of this application shall not exceed the total subscription fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim.

HMRC holds you — not CabTax Limited — legally responsible for the accuracy and timely submission of your tax return.
CabTax calculates loss carry-forward and pension annual allowance positions based solely on the figures you enter, including amounts relating to previous tax years. It is your responsibility to ensure that any losses entered were validly claimed with HMRC within statutory time limits, and that pension contribution figures — including employer contributions and contributions to schemes outside CabTax — are complete and accurate for every year entered.
CabTax does not provide tax, financial or investment advice. Certain matters fall outside what CabTax calculates and require advice from a qualified accountant or regulated financial adviser, including: losses not previously reported to HMRC (particularly where the tax year concerned ended more than four years ago); relief for losses against other income or gains ("sideways relief") and terminal loss relief; the money purchase annual allowance (MPAA); and the tapered annual allowance for higher incomes. Where CabTax displays a message recommending professional advice, you should obtain that advice before relying on any calculation.
CabTax contains links to external websites and services including GOV.UK, HMRC online services, and the HMRC Charity Register. CabTax Limited is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of any external website, nor any changes to GOV.UK guidance or HMRC policy that may affect the accuracy of information within CabTax.
CabTax connects directly to HMRC's Making Tax Digital (MTD) API, allowing eligible users to submit quarterly MTD updates to HMRC from within the app. This connection uses HMRC's official OAuth authorisation and requires you to grant CabTax permission through your Government Gateway account.
For MTD quarterly submissions, once you have connected your HMRC account:
For Self Assessment (SA100) annual returns, CabTax generates a complete summary of your figures which you can review and submit yourself via the HMRC Self Assessment portal at gov.uk. CabTax is currently working towards HMRC recognised software status for direct SA100 filing; until that recognition is granted, annual returns must be submitted by you directly on the HMRC website.
CabTax is not yet listed on HMRC's approved software list. Approved software status will be displayed prominently once granted.
Year-end functionality, including the Final Declaration, is being introduced in stages and will become available in the app once the relevant HMRC production access has been granted. Until then, the app will clearly indicate which submissions can be made through CabTax.
